Overview
The Bald Hills Wind Farm consists of 52 wind turbines, each with an electricity generating capacity of 2.05 megawatts (MW) giving the project a total capacity of 106.6MW. The Bald Hills Wind Farm is connected to the national electricity grid at Leongatha South by a new 27km 66kV power-line. For almost half the route the power-line overbuilds existing 22kV power-line.
The first export of electricity from BHWF occurred on 24 February 2015 and after commissioning of the last wind turbine in May 2015, the wind farm is fully operational.
Now well into its operational phase, Bald Hills Wind Farm has a permanent operations and maintenance staff of ten people, based on-site, engaged in regular maintenance activities and attending to any technical issues that may arise.
Who owns Bald Hills Wind Farm?
The wind farm is owned by Bald Hills Wind Farm Pty Ltd, which is wholly owned by Australian Renewables Income Fund.
Australian Renewables Income Fund is a wholesale unlisted unit trust.
Who built & operates Bald Hills Wind Farm?
Bald Hills Wind Farm selected Senvion GmbH to supply the wind turbines and construct the wind farm under a full turn-key Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract.
In December 2019, Bald Hills Wind Farm engaged Vestas under a long term Operations and Maintenance contract to maintain the wind farm and provide ongoing technical support.
Where is Bald Hills Wind Farm?
The Bald Hills Wind Farm is located approximately 10kms south east of Tarwin Lower in South Gippsland. The Bald Hills Wind Farm site covers approximately 1750ha of largely cleared cattle and sheep grazing farmland.
The wind farm site consists of two distinct areas. The northern section is approximately 10kms from the coast with hilly terrain running north to south at the rear of the site at an appropriate angle to the prevailing wind. The southern section is located on gently sloping farmland, with turbines located more than 2kms from the coast.
